Employee Support and Wellbeing
At GTK, we’re proud to provide a comprehensive employee assistance programme (EAP), available for team members at all levels of the company to access and benefit from at all times.
Read on to discover more about manufacturing and mental health, our EAP and the support it provides.
Manufacturing and mental health
As a key player in the manufacturing sector, we know how important it is to provide a wide-reaching and supportive programme of mental health support for employees that might be struggling.
For employees working in manufacturing, mental health issues are common and can manifest themselves in a number of different ways. For example, a 2023 report found that one in four manufacturing workers reported their work environment was negatively affecting their mental health.
Manufacturing consistently ranks in the bottom 10% of all sectors for mental health, which is why we made the decision to expand our mental health policies. We aim to provide leading support for our team members at every level of the company.
Our EAP and extending our support
Under our new and improved EAP, employees have much-improved access to resources to support their mental health, with a range of resources that can be accessed either in-person or at home.
The new programme offers access to free counselling sessions, free legal advice, and a 24/7 helpline, so support is always available, as well as a huge range of online articles and advice on a variety of different topics.
Another key goal of our expanded EAP is to extend beyond mental health support, covering all areas that may have an impact on an employee’s wellbeing.
This includes financial wellbeing and having access to a financial support service, so that employees can easily access financial advice from an external party.
Physical health is also covered – our EAP programme provides support for physical wellbeing, with access to:
- Physiotherapy sessions
- Personal training sessions
- Health MOTs
- Lifestyle coaching
- Online GP appointments
Our EAP is designed to help our team get access to support as quickly as possible.
Informing and increasing awareness
These updates were supported via a rollout of updated policies within GTK, which have kept our teams informed and provided further information to ensure that all elements of the EAP can be accessed easily.
Part of our updated EAP includes an update of the employee handbook and the introduction of a newly created GTK Mental Health Toolkit. This new toolkit helps train our managers and supervisors to spot the signs of mental health issues within their teams and provide support or point team members in the right direction early on.
To ensure that our EAP is as valuable as possible to our team members, it’s vital to increase the accessibility and awareness of our new policies.
