Standardised Cable Looms Power Smarter Stage Systems
The Challenge
Our customer was designing state-of-the-art sound and lighting decks used on major international tours. These decks sit at the heart of live performances, where reliability and precision are non-negotiable.
However, the manufacturer faced a growing constraint: they did not have technical drawings or standardised specifications for their internal cabling. This made it difficult to evolve their desk designs, introduce new features, or quickly adapt connectivity layouts for different tour requirements. To continue innovating at pace, the customer needed a structured, engineered approach to their internal cable infrastructure.

The Solution
GTK worked closely with the customer to fully understand their power, signal, and connectivity requirements across lighting and audio systems. Using this information, we created a fully documented cable loom kit and associated technical drawings that became a foundational template for their deck designs.
Alongside this, our engineering team applied Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles to optimise the cable assemblies. This ensured the looms were not only technically robust, but also efficient to build, cost-effective to produce, and optimised for consistent lead times.
Cost-Efficiencies
By applying DFM principles from the outset, GTK reduced unnecessary complexity within the cable designs. Additionally, by basing component selection around our Core Material Strategy, there were no excess material costs.
Time Saving
The new, streamlined designs improved our manufacturing process delivering shorter lead times, and the standardised cable kit meant that the customer’s installation time was also greatly reduced.
Business Advantage
With a fully engineered cabling template in place, our customer had a scalable foundation for future product development. New features and system updates could be designed and implemented more easily, allowing them to stay competitive in their industry.
