Active Matrix OLED (AMOLED)

GTK has just announced that it has added to its Opto portfolio a new display range which utilises the innovative Active Matrix OLED (AMOLED) technology.  The displays have low power consumption, vivid colours, an operating temperature range from -20ºC to +60ºC and are available in sizes ranging from 2" to 7.6", measuring between 1.3mm and 5.3mm in thickness.

AMOLEDs consume considerably less power when compared with traditional backlit transmissive TFT displays as it is an emissive technology and each of its pixels emits its own light and consumes no power at all when not illuminated.  Exact power consumption of an AMOLED display will always vary according to the image displayed but it consumes between 25% and 60% less power than that of a panel which employs a conventional display technology such as TFT.

Apart from the power consumption and size advantages, an AMOLED display also offers a high contrast ratio (sunlight readable), a response time of only a few micro seconds and an unlimited viewing angle, making it suitable for many applications including mobile phones, MP3/4, high end broadcast and automotive applications.
