GTK has
launched a USB-serial
adaptor that allows buyers of new notebook PCs to
use existing legacy peripherals such as digital cameras,
PDAs, ISDN terminal adaptors and mobile phones. The
new adaptor can also be used to free up the serial port
of older USB equipped PCs, so that more than one legacy
device can be connected at once.
The latest generation of notebook PCs is increasingly
'legacy free', meaning that they have no D-subminiature
ports such as serial interfaces. To use older peripherals
with these machines it is necessary to connect via a
more recently developed interface such as USB.
Supplied as a cable assembly, the GTK USB-serial adaptor
has a USB plug at one end and a 9-way serial D-subminiature
connector at the other. It incorporates circuitry at
the serial end to enable easy “plug-and-play”
connection, as supported by USB but not by conventional
serial interfaces. |
