A new
range of low-cost connectors conforming to the DVI (digital
visual interface) specification has been introduced
by GTK.
Developed by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG)
to enable end-to-end digital data transfer between a
computer and its display, DVI permits high data rates
of up to 9.9 Gbps, preventing the signal degradation
and loss of information that occurs during analogue
transmission.
Although designed for digital data transfer, DVI connectors
also support high-speed analogue video transmission
at 2.5 GHz to ensure plug-and-play interoperability
with legacy equipment. TMDS (transmission minimized
differential signalling) for DVI is also fully supported.
